Arithmetic Machine

In 1941 Blaise Pascal started inventing a machine that would help his dad add money. He called this the Arithmetic machine. He made fifty different improvements to this in 10 years. The arithmetic machine used gears that were connected to wheels. These wheels moved when a number was added. A wheel had the numbers 0 9 on it. When the wheel went after 9 it would move the next wheel up a number. This machine was one of the first machines that could do computing.

Pascals arithmetic machine was always updated but not by much. In 1694 Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz updated it so it could also multiply and divide.

One problem with this invention is that it was very complicated there were many different parts. So there werent many of these made. The arithmetic machine benefited many people, as it was the first machine that could add and subtract.
